About the Coalition

Staff

The Coalition's Executive Director postion is shared by two Co-Directors: AdiShakti Khalsa and Avtar Khalsa. They have served as Executive Co-Directors since May, 2001.

Prior to becoming Executive Co-Director, AdiShakti worked for the Coaltion as the Director of the Communtiy-Wide After School Program in Flagstaff. She was the founding director of the Flagstaff Battered Women's Shelter, and has been working in areas related to women, children, and families for more than 30 years. AdiShakti received her BS (summa cum laude) in Psychology from Georgia State University, and her Masters in Counseling (with honors) from San Francisco State University.

For several years Avtar was a camp director at Anytown, a residential diversity and human relations program for high school age young adults operated by the National Conference for Community and Justice. He also spent several years in the Army, training soldiers who were only slightly older than high school kids. He is a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a BS in Sociology.

AdiShakti and Avtar have twin daughters: Kirin and Simran.

Funding

The Coalition receives generous financial and in-kind support from Coconino County, the City of Flagstaff, and the Flagstaff Unified School District. The Coalition's Child Abuse Prevention Education Program is supported by a grant from the Arizona Department of Economic Security's Child Abuse Prevention Fund, and a grant from the Arizona Republic Charities (administered by Child Abuse Prevention Arizona). Funding for the Coalition's out-of-school time workshops is provided by the Arizona School-Age Coalition. The Coalition's Youth Sucide Prevention initiatives are supported by a grant from EMPACT-SPC. We also depend on the regular contributions from our members. Learn how you can help.
